Fire Protection Group, Inc. Presents Pet Fire Safety Tips

Fire Protection Group, Inc. believes that fire suppression, sprinkler, and alarm systems are pivotal in protecting people, their pets, and their homes. However, when it comes to saving your pets from a blaze, there are many preventative steps you can take that might make sprinkler or alarm activation a non-issue. 40,000 pets die each year in house fires and pets start about 1000 fires annually, so please be sure to follow as many of these tips as possible because these fires are preventable:

· Cover or remove the knobs on your stove. The Red Cross states that a stove or cook top is the "number one piece of equipment involved in your pet starting a fire."

· Put out all candles when you leave a room. Pets can (deliberately or not) tip over candles and start a fire.

· Pet-proof your house and keep curious young pets confined so they don't knock over fire-causing things while you're gone.

· For when fires do happen, make sure you have a rescue alert sticker on a front-facing window and that your pet is properly identified and/or microchipped. When you leave the house, try to keep your pets in a room near the front of the house to help firefighters get to them in time.

Of course, the best ways to prevent the spread of fires and to save lives (human and pet) is to make sure that you have fire sprinkler systems in place. Fire Protection Group, Inc. recommends that every home and residential space install life- and cost-saving sprinklers. Often costing dollars per square foot covered (the American Fire Sprinkler Association estimates $1-2 for new construction projects and $2-3 for retrofits), fire sprinklers are surely worth the cost. Plus, with fire protection engineering from Fire Protection Group, Inc., your installation will be efficient, can increase your property values, and can lead to homeowners insurance discounts.
